How treatment decisions are approached

Urology often offers several technically possible treatments. The more useful question is which option is appropriate for the individual patient.

For an enlarged prostate, that means considering symptoms, urine flow, residual urine, prostate anatomy, complications and response to medicines. For stone disease, it means considering the number, size, location and density of stones, infection, obstruction and kidney anatomy. For cancer, treatment depends on stage, tumour biology, kidney function, age, comorbidities and patient priorities.

“A good consultation should leave the patient understanding not only what I recommend, but why I recommend it and what the alternatives are.”

Special interest in HoLEP and RIRS

HoLEP and RIRS are important parts of Dr Goel's endourology practice. HoLEP offers an anatomical endoscopic approach to benign prostate obstruction, while RIRS enables many kidney stones to be treated through the natural urinary passage. Neither procedure should be selected simply because it is minimally invasive; the indication and patient factors remain central.
